Qatar-Jordan Trade Exchange Reaches $248 Million in 2024 Reflecting Growth in Bilateral Relations

Prime Highlights:

Qatar-Jordan trade exchange in 2024 totaled $248.16 million (910 million Qatari riyals), a 5.81% increase from the previous year.

The increase in trade was primarily driven by higher imports of Jordanian food and consumer goods.

Key Background:

The trade exchange between Qatar and Jordan reached 910 million Qatari riyals ($248.16 million) in 2024, marking a 5.81% increase compared to the previous year. This growth reflects a rise in imports of Jordanian food and consumer goods. Data from Qatar’s Planning and Statistics Authority, as reported by Jordan News Agency, shows that the total commerce between the two countries grew from 800 million riyals in 2022 to 860 million riyals in 2023.

The strengthening of trade ties between Qatar and Jordan has been a notable trend in recent years, particularly since the creation of the Joint Business Council in 2015. In a move to further enhance cooperation, Jordanian Prime Minister Jafar Hassan and Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani met in November 2024 to discuss potential areas of collaboration, including economic development, trade, investment, and infrastructure.

In 2024, Jordan’s major exports to Qatar were food and consumer goods, which included a variety of fresh and processed foods, vegetables, fruits, meats, dairy products, grains, and beverages such as juices and coffee. Other key exports included rice, nuts, oils, herbs, honey, poultry, and fresh cheeses. Conversely, Qatar’s exports to Jordan were primarily chemicals and industrial products, including motor oils, sulfuric acid, polyethylene, and aluminum molds. Other significant Qatari exports comprised iron rods, chemical fertilizers, plastic bags, and medical solutions.

This increase in trade comes amid broader regional growth in economic relations. Saudi Arabia, for example, reported a 15.95% year-on-year increase in its trade with Jordan in the third quarter of 2024. With continued efforts to expand economic cooperation, the trade relationship between Qatar and Jordan is poised to remain on an upward trajectory in the years ahead.
